Following a monthslong homicide investigation, two men were arrested last week for the fatal shooting of a Mountain View mother at a Sunnyvale mobile home park in early January.
Sunnyvale police responded to reports of a shooting in the area of 1225 Vienna Drive at 9:39 p.m. Jan. 7. When officers arrived, they found a woman with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene and the perpetrators had fled the area before police arrived, Sunnyvale Chief of Public Safety Dan Pistor said in a press briefing Monday afternoon.
Police later identified the woman as Kembery Chirinos-Flores, a 24-year-old Mountain View resident and mother of a five-year-old son.
The homicide investigation led local and federal law enforcement agencies to two suspects, Alfonso Inestroza, a Hollister resident, and Gerzon Chirinos, a Sunnyvale resident. Chirinos was previously in a relationship with Chirinos-Flores and is the father of her son, Pistor said.
Both men were arrested on suspicion of murder on March 5 in separate operations. A Sunnyvale SWAT team arrested Inestroza, who had an outstanding arrest warrant for an unrelated murder case in New Jersey. Police also recovered a shotgun they believe to be the murder weapon, Pistor said.
Inestroza and Chirinos were booked into Santa Clara County jail without incident, according to Pistor.
“I can only imagine the profound pain Kembery’s family is experiencing during this difficult time. Kembery was in the prime of her life. She was working two jobs to make ends meet, and she was a loving mother of a five-year-old son,” Pistor said during the press briefing. “This was a tragic and senseless act of violence that is fortunately extremely rare in our city.”
The investigation is still active although police have determined that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Anyone with information about the shooting can contact Detective Eugene Rosette at 408-730-7110.
