Two drivers suspected of vehicular manslaughter in two separate collisions in San Francisco have been arrested, police announced Friday.
Merih Fssha Solomon, 47, of Walnut Creek was arrested after she allegedly struck two pedestrians, an adult and a 2-year-old child.
Just before 9 p.m. on Feb. 27, officers responded to the area of Fourth and Channel streets in the Mission Bay area. Officers determined that Solomon allegedly struck the adult and child as they were crossing the street.
The victims were taken to a hospital where the 2-year-old died from their injuries. The adult suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Solomon was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, a red light violation, and failure to yield to pedestrians.
In another fatal car crash, police arrested 43-year-old Abdul Hye of Mountain View for allegedly striking a pedestrian and a man on a scooter.
On March 5 at about 10:45 p.m., officers arrived in the area of Kearny and Broadway streets in the North Beach neighborhood. The adult male pedestrian was found with injuries and officers rendered aid, but he died at the scene.
Another victim was also injured after he fell off his scooter due to the collision. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Thursday, an investigator met with Hye and developed probable cause to arrest him. He was taken to jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, unsafe backing, driving on a sidewalk, driving the wrong way, and other traffic violations.
“Our streets should be safe for everyone,” said San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew in a statement. “Our officers will do everything in our power to hold drivers accountable when their actions kill people.”
The fatal collisions are still open and active investigations. Anyone with information is asked to contact SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD. Those who provide information may remain anonymous.
