An accidental cooking fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damage to a recreational vehicle and left one person suffering from smoke inhalation Wednesday night, according to the Mountain View Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the 1000 block of Independence Avenue after a 911 caller reported flames coming from an RV at 8:10 p.m. on May 27. Crews arrived six minutes later and found an active fire in the vehicle, according to a fire department press release.
Firefighters extinguished the flames before they could spread and conducted an overhaul to ensure the fire was fully out.
One adult was treated at the scene by Mountain View Fire Department paramedics for smoke inhalation and declined transport to a local hospital, the press release said.
Fire officials determined the fire was accidental and started after a “cooking error” ignited the contents of a pot on the stove.

The RV’s two adult occupants arranged temporary housing with friends and neighbors after the fire.
The Mountain View Police Department provided traffic control for about 90 minutes while the fire crews worked. The city’s Public Works Department responded to ensure contaminants from the fire did not enter the storm drain.
The Mountain View Fire Department also offered cooking safety recommendations, such staying in the kitchen while cooking and keeping flammable items away from stovetops.
