Linden Tree Books has likely been a source for the books on many Peninsula children’s shelves, but now it aims to get more books into even more kids’ hands.

The Los Altos children’s bookstore recently announced the Linden Tree Literary Fund, which will provide free books to children in need, with a goal of one million books.

“It’s always been Linden Tree’s mission to be a place for young readers to discover the magic of books, the Linden Tree Literary Foundation is an extension of that” said co-owner Flo Grosskurth in a press release announcing the fund.

The Linden Tree Literary Fund will launch on Oct. 24 with a day of activities. Guests can take part in a scary monster craft at 10 a.m. with Ruthie LaFond, then aspiring writers can try their hands at penning a very concise spooky tale with two-sentence horror story writing, led by Keely Parrack at 1 p.m. Teen readers are invited to a social at 5 p.m. where they can pick up advance copies of new young adult books to read and review. The day concludes at 6 p.m. with a book launch featuring the authors of young adult mystery books Trish Lundy and Charlotte Lillie Balogh.

The event is free to attend, but those who donate $10 or more to the literary fund will be entered into a raffle for prizes such as posters, tote bags or the chance to be a bookseller for the day.
