Pub in the Park
Redwood City’s famous inflatable British-style pub is back, kicking off its Pub in the Park season with an afternoon performance by long-running local bluegrass and folk-rock group The Stragglyrs. The group has released numerous albums and are known for their harmony vocals. In addition to live music, expect a range of local beers and ciders in the pub, plus food trucks and lawn games. The food-truck lineup for the season’s first event is slated to include Jonathan’s Fish & Chips, Curry Up Now, Waffle Roost, Humphry Slocombe, Rincon del Cielo and MoBowl

‘A Little Night Music’ in concert
Redwood Symphony presents the West Coast premiere of a new arrangement of Stephen Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music” in concert, by the show’s original orchestrator Jonathan Tunick. Directed by Sara Kannen Dean with Eric Kujawsky conducting, “A Little Night Music” is the symphonic group’s third production of Sondheim shows in concert, following “Sweeney Todd” and “Follies.” In addition to words and music by Sondheim, “A Little Night Music” has a book by Hugh Wheeler, inspired by a film by Ingmar Bergman. The in-concert performances present the entire show, dialogue included.

Silicon Valley Pun Competition
It’s a war of wordplay when Bay Area comics go head to head in a live battle of puns and double entendres at Rooster T. Feathers’ Silicon Valley Pun Competition. After the pun-ishing (get it??) show, winners are determined by a panel of judges and an audience vote and are awarded cash prizes, along with bragging rights.

Nova Vista Symphony’s ‘Inaugural Concert Redux’
Nova Vista Symphony is marking its 60th season this year, having been formed by the merger of Sunnyvale Symphony and members of Foothill College’s orchestra back in 1966. In celebration of that anniversary, its upcoming concert is an homage to its inaugural performance from November of 1966. Featuring guest artist pianist Russell Hancock, the program includes the overture to “Die Fledermaus” by Strauss, Grieg’s Concerto in A Minor for Piano and Orchestra, Barber’s First Essay for Orchestra and Borodin’s Symphony No. 2.

Jazz at the Gates
Stanford University’s Cantor Art Center and Anderson Collection are throwing an evening garden party, featuring live jazz, cocktails and snacks set against the atmospheric backdrop of the Rodin sculpture garden.

Marc Fontane
California musician Marc Fontane and his band come to The Guild for a performance billed as “decades of pop/rock music in one night,” joined by guest singers Desh and Kathryn Aarons. According to his website, Fontane has gained attention from listeners of various generations for his sound “shaped by era-spanning influences and his basic philosophy of ‘simply good jams.'”
