Andrea Gemmet
Editor, The Almanac and Mountain View Voice
Andrea Gemmet is the editor of The Almanac and a Midpeninsula native who got her first newspaper job while still in high school. After graduating from the University of California, Santa Cruz, she became a staff writer for The Almanac, where she covered everything from homicides and historic preservation battles to city hall shenanigans, land use, education and local characters human and non-human. Her breaking news reporting on the closure of independent bookstore Kepler's earned her a first-place award for Public Service from CNPA in 2006.
For 12 years, she led the newsroom of the Mountain View Voice, first as managing editor and then as editor following the retirement of Editor-in-Chief Tom Gibboney in 2014. Under her leadership, the Voice was 2017's winner of Online General Excellence at CNPA's Better Newspapers Contest and winner of General Excellence in 2016 and 2018 at CNPA's renamed California Journalism Awards. During lockdown in 2020, she added editor of The Almanac to her responsibilities, departing at the end of 2023 to become editorial director of Menlo Park-based PUNCH Magazine. Andrea returned to The Almanac as editor in 2026.
