City offers instructions to dispose of holiday trees
Mountain View residents looking to dispose of their holiday trees can set them out to be taken away for free on their compost collection day from Dec. 26 through the third week of January.
Both green and flocked trees will be accepted, as well as wood stands. However, tinsel, decorations, and metal and plastic stands must be removed. Large trees should be cut into five-foot pieces and placed in the street gutter near your driveway. Small trees should be cut up and placed into compost carts.
The tree removal service is available for residents with individual cart service, according to the city. Apartment managers and business can also arrange for onsite tree collection by calling Recology Mountain View at 650-967-3034.
After the third Friday in January, residents should cut up trees to place in their compost cart, use a free On Call Plus appointment or attach an extra garbage tag, according to the city.
School registration will open soon
Registration will open soon for next school year in the Mountain View Whisman School District.
From Jan. 21 through Feb. 7, parents of returning and new students are asked to confirm their child’s enrollment online. At mvwsd.org/register, the school district has information on the registration process, as well as videos about each school and steps to determine a family’s assigned school.
Information nights are also scheduled to be held for each school, with a list available at mvw.sd/Meetings2526.
Applications open for Spanish leadership academy
Applications are open for the city of Mountain View’s 2025 Spanish Language Civic Leadership Academy.
The 10-week program is designed for Spanish-speaking residents who are looking to increase their civic engagement, leadership and volunteerism in the community, according to the city. It also helps prepare participants to serve on City Council advisory bodies and committees.
Sessions will be held on Wednesday evenings starting on March 26, according to the city. The program is presented in English and Spanish.
Participants must be 18 years or older and live in Mountain View. Childcare will be available for children over 7 years old and light dinners will be provided.
Applications are available at MountainView.gov/SpanishAcademy and are due by March 7.
