Alta Vista High earns statewide honor
Alta Vista Vista High School in Mountain View has been named a 2025 Model Continuation High School by the state, joining 73 other schools throughout California that were given the honor.
The award recognizes schools that “provide comprehensive services to at-risk youth,” according to a press release from the California Department of Education.
Continuation high schools like Alta Vista generally serve students who are not on track to graduate, helping them to catch up and earn the credits needed to get their diploma.
Part of the Mountain View Los Altos High School District, Alta Vista High School has been selected as a model school multiple times in the past, most recently in 2022. Schools retain the designation for three years.
Statewide, there are 429 continuation high schools serving nearly 49,000 students, according to the state education department.
