Annual Mountain View Obon Festival is this weekend

The Mountain View Buddhist Temple is scheduled to host its annual Obon Festival and Bazaar this weekend.

The yearly celebration is a chance to honor loved ones who have died and celebrate their ongoing influence in attendees’ lives, according to the festival website. The event will feature cultural exhibits, food, games, children’s activities and dancing. 

The Obon Festival runs from 4-9 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, and noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple, 575 N. Shoreline Blvd. For more information, visit obon.mvbuddhisttemple.org.

Mountain View History Center expands hours

The Mountain View History Center is expanding its hours, so that more people can explore the city’s past.

The history center, which is located within the Mountain View Public Library, preserves materials pertaining to Mountain View’s heritage, including maps, photographs, newspapers, books, directories and school yearbooks, according to the center’s website

Starting on July 17, the history center will be open from 4-8 p.m. on Thursdays. That’s in addition to its existing hours of operation from 1-5 p.m. on Tuesdays. The center is also available by appointment.

New Santa Clara County Super Court judge sworn in

Eunice Lee was recently sworn in as a Santa Clara County Superior Court judge, filling the vacancy created by Judge Vanessa Zecher’s retirement. 

Lee took the oath of office at a July 11 ceremony, according to a court press release. She has spent the last decade serving as a deputy district attorney with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. 

Previously, Lee worked as an associate at Minami Tamaki LLP from 2008 to 2015. She earned her law degree from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced his decision to appoint Lee last month, along with 15 other judges around the state. Lee is a Democrat, as are the other 15 newly appointed judges, according to a press release from Newsom’s office.
