Mountain View police arrested a man on Thursday last week for allegedly driving under the influence and crashing into three patrol vehicles in Mountain View and Palo Alto, leaving one officer with minor injuries, according to the Mountain View Police Department.
The suspect, a 22-year-old Daly City resident, struck a parked Mountain View patrol vehicle on Aug. 8 around 2:26 a.m. at the intersection of Franklin Street and Villa Street, and then fled the scene, a police spokesperson said.
Officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the suspect fled again and collided with another Mountain View patrol vehicle in what appeared to be an intentional act, police said.
The suspect continued to evade police and drove towards Palo Alto where it then crashed into a Palo Alto patrol vehicle, that also appeared intentional. The collision forcibly stopped the suspect’s car, and he was arrested at that time, police said.
According to police, the suspect told them that he did not realize that he had collided with any vehicles at all. He was allegedly heavily intoxicated during the incident, police said.
The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, evading a police officer, driving under the influence and hit and run, police said.
A Mountain View police officer sustained minor injuries from the vehicle collision, which caused pain and swelling in their hands and feet. One Mountain View patrol vehicle was majorly damaged with a broken axle and damaged frame. The other Mountain View patrol vehicle had minor damages, police said.
