An elderly Los Altos man suffered a traumatic blow to his head on Monday, Sept. 16, with one person detained in the investigation, according to the Los Altos Police Department.
The victim, a 89-year-old Los Altos resident, was found unconscious by the railroad tracks near Foothill Expressway and Highway 280 on Monday afternoon, according to a statement from the Los Altos Police Department.
Police officers received a call from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office around 3:23 p.m. reporting the event. When officers arrived, they found that the Santa Clara County Fire Department was already providing medical aid to the victim, who had life-threatening head injuries. The man was transported to a local trauma center to receive treatment for his injuries and is in stable condition, police said on Tuesday.
Investigators have detained one person who is acquainted with the victim, police said.
The case is still under investigation, and police are asking for help from community members or drivers who may have noticed something unusual in the area around the time of the attack, which is thought to have occurred in the late morning or early afternoon on Monday. Police are especially interested in viewing security camera footage between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the area of Foothill Expressway between Homestead Road and Cristo Rey Drive.
