A man was arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly making sexually suggestive gestures towards two young children at Eagle Park, according to the Mountain View Police Department.
Dispatchers received a call around 3:45 p.m. on July 8, reporting suspicious activity at Eagle Park at 650 Franklin St., according to police.
When police officers arrived at the park, they spoke with two witnesses who said an unknown man had made “inappropriate gestures” towards a 4-year-old and 6-year-old, according to a statement from the police department on Friday, July 11.
The suspect, a 25-year-old Sunnyvale resident, reportedly approached one child in close proximity and made “sexually suggestive gestures,” police spokesperson Monica Leon said in an email.
A nearby witness intervened and shouted at the suspect who gave a comment and then moved away, according to the police statement. The police did not specify what was said during the exchange.
The suspect then approached a second child and allegedly made the same gestures, which were seen by the child’s father. The father shouted at the suspect, and the suspect moved away, police said.
Neither child was touched or injured during the incidents, according to police.
The suspect was located by the responding officers and positively identified by two witnesses, police said. The man was arrested under suspicion for contacting a minor with the intent to commit lewd acts and for annoying or molesting a child, according to the statement.
The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail and is being held on $50,000 bail. A hearing is scheduled for July 21, according to county records.
