A fifth Mountain View Whisman school is getting a new principal this fall, with the school board unanimously voting last week to hire Jamie Bradley to lead Crittenden Middle School.
Currently an assistant principal at Columbia Middle School in Sunnyvale, Bradley will replace Julie Thompson, who is moving into a role at the district office. Bradley previously worked for seven years in special education roles in the Fremont Union High School District.
“From the moment we met him, it was clear that he shares our deep commitment to students,” Superintendent Jeff Baier wrote in a June 17 email to Crittenden families and staff. “Mr. Bradley is an administrator who keeps students and learning at the center, creating engaging learning experiences and fostering the social-emotional skills that help every student thrive.”
In recent months, district officials have also named new leaders at Bubb, Mistral and Vargas elementary schools, as well as Graham Middle School.
Thompson, Crittenden’s current principal, plans to move into a “principal on special assignment” role at the district office, in which she will be “supporting student-centered initiatives,” according to Baier’s email. Thompson first came to Crittenden in 2023 as an assistant principal, before taking the top job in 2024 when Anne Flores-Aikey announced her retirement.
As a principal on special assignment, Thompson will work with teachers and administrators on issues including closing achievement gaps among student groups, district spokesperson Shelly Hausman said. The position is new, Hausman confirmed.
Earlier this year, the school board approved over $7 million in budget cuts, including the elimination of roughly 20 district office positions. Thompson’s new role will help the district maintain its momentum in light of these reductions, Hausman said.

So it’s $7 million minus whatever we pay for a very expensive principal. They aren’t cheap!
Supporting student centered initiatives is very vague. As opposed to what? Is there anyone not focused on the students?
