The Mountain View Voice and League of Women Voters of the Los Altos-Mountain View Area are jointly hosting a Mountain View City Council candidate forum at 7 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Mountain View Community Center, 201 S. Rengstorff Ave.

There are eight contenders vying for three seats on the City Council in this November’s election, all of whom are expected to attend Thursday’s event.

Mountain View Voice reporter Emily Margaretten and League of Women Voters representative Jan Pepper will moderate the forum, asking the candidates about a wide range of local issues.

Members of the public are invited to attend the free event and no advance registration is required. The forum will also be livestreamed on YouTube at this link.

Sam Ali, Alex Amoroso, Robert Cox, Paul Donahue, James Kuszmaul, Erik Poicon, Silja Paymer and IdaRose Sylvester are all seeking a spot on the City Council. None are incumbents and all but Poicon and Slyvester are running for the first time. The top three vote-getters will join Chris Clark, John McAlister, Emily Ann Ramos and Pat Showalter on the seven-member governing body.

In recent weeks, the Voice has written profiles of each candidate, as well as publishing a detailed issue grid, comparing the candidates’ specific policy positions. All that coverage, along with similar reporting on other local races, is available on the Voice’s 2026 Voter Guide.
