Local students host art exhibition

Freestyle Academy is hosting an end-of-year exhibit of student work from 5-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23.

Freestyle Academy is an art and digital media program in the Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. It will include narrative and documentary films, magazines, animations, photography, illustrations, movie posters, light boxes and more.

The event will be held at Freestyle’s new campus behind the district office at 1299 Bryant Ave. in Mountain View.

Mountain View set to celebrate teen week

Mountain View plans to celebrate Teen Week from May 13-17 with various activities and promotions throughout town.

Events include a teen art showcase in the City Hall rotunda, 500 Castro St., from 5:30-7 p.m. on Monday, May 13, and a cultural diversity fair at The View Teen Center, 263 Escuela Ave., from 5:30-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15.

The City Council also plans to issue a proclamation and there are teen-only discounts available at various local businesses.

Chamber of Commerce to hold awards ceremony 

The Mountain View Chamber of Commerce will host an annual awards ceremony honoring businesses, organizations and individuals in the city from 5:30-9 p.m. on Friday, May 17.

The 29th annual Celebration of Leaders and ATHENA Awards ceremony will be at the Computer History Museum, located at 1401 N. Shoreline Boulevard.

The Celebration of Leaders “recognizes exceptional contributions and service to the Mountain View community,” according to a Chamber press release.

The ATHENA Leadership Award is presented to someone “for their professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills,” the release said.

The event will also include a silent auction, with bidding in person and online.

The Voice is a media sponsor for the event.
