A fire ripped through a home in the Monta Loma neighborhood early Thursday morning that caused massive structural damage and left one occupant with burn and smoke inhalation injuries, according to the Mountain View Fire Department.

Mountain View dispatchers received a 911 call at 5:09 a.m. on Feb. 29, reporting a house fire on the 400 block of Dell Avenue. When fire crews arrived at the residence, they saw flames coming from its roof, according to the statement.

Firefighters used a 200-foot fire-attack hose line to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring homes. The Palo Alto Fire Department also assisted with the fire suppression. Fire crews were able to fully extinguish the fire by 6 a.m. before cutting open the walls and ceilings to ensure all the flames were put out, fire officials said.

Firefighters also searched the house for occupants, all whom had left the home when the fire broke out. One resident was examined for burns and smoke inhalation and was transported by ambulance to El Camino Hospital for further treatment. The displaced residents planned to stay with friends until other accommodations could be made for them, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation, and the house was entirely destroyed with damages exceeding $800,000, fire officials said.
