Nominations up for teacher of year
It’s time for teachers, parents and students to nominate an educator as the state’s 2005-06 “Teacher of the Year.” The March 1 deadline for submissions is approaching for this award, which grants $1,000 to the winning teacher, and $500 to that teacher’s school.
The state winner will also be eligible for the national award, which includes special recognition and a $2,500 travel certificate. Nomination forms are available online at www.teachers.com/toty.
Rotary Club to award $16,500 in scholarships
The Rotary Club of Los Altos is currently accepting applications for its 2006 Community Service Scholarships. High school seniors are encouraged to apply by the March 15, 2006 deadline.
The purpose of the annual scholarship awards is to encourage student participation in community service, reward intellectual excellence, and provide needed financial assistance for further education. Scholarships range from $500 to $800 for community college-bound applicants, and from $500 to $2,500 for students at four-year institutions.
Application forms may be obtained from the counseling offices of area secondary schools, including Alta Vista, Los Altos, Mountain View and St. Francis, as well as Foothill College. Application forms can also be downloaded from www.losaltosrotary.org under “Community Service Scholarships.”
