Janet Waiblinger sent in this image of a clutch of duck eggs, which came with the following story, published in the current “Seen Around Town” feature:
“We found (these eggs) in our backyard next to Sylvan Park. Our puppy walked across the lawn with something in her mouth, which turned out to be an egg. I was so perplexed — where could she have gotten an egg from? And I certainly didn’t expect there were more! But when the puppy ran over to the lantana bush and was nosing her way in, I went to look. Only from above the lantana could you see that a duck had cleared out a circle of the bush and laid a dozen eggs!
“The picture only shows 11 — unfortunately the first egg the puppy discovered she quickly ate before I could pry it out of her mouth. There is no fountain, pool, or other water source in our yard, these bushes haven’t even been watered in many years, even the lawn is dry … so no idea what made a duck land in our yard of all places.”
If you have a photo taken around town which you’d like published in the Voice’s Seen Around Town, please send it (as a jpg attachment) to editor@mv-voice.com.
