Mountain View police are asking for help in catching the man who sexually assaulted a woman last month outside her home on the 800 block of East El Camino Real.

According to a press release, at about 4 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, a 26-year-old woman was throwing away trash in “an enclosed garbage collection area outside her residence” at 870 E. El Camino Real when she was grabbed, fell to the ground and was sexually assaulted by an unidentified attacker.

The woman kicked her assailant several times and he fled. She suffered minor bruises, police said, but did not require medical treatment. She apparently did not report the attack until two days later.

The attacker is described as a white or light-skinned Latino man in his late 20s, more than 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build, clean shaven and with short brown hair. He was wearing a blue sweater, blue jeans and a black belt.

Police have made a sketch of the attacker and ask that anyone with information call (650) 903-6356. Tips may be made anonymously.

Police also encourage community members “to be aware of their surroundings,” and say suspicious people or activities can be reported to the Mountain View Police Department’s non-emergency dispatch number at (650) 903-6395. All emergencies or crimes in progress should be reported by dialing 911.

  1. Well I live there this a big apartment complex is Archstone apt I would never think this ca happen here. There are like 170 apt and the garbage dumpsters are really close to the apartment

  2. Jess, not everyone works 9-5. You have the right to take your garbage out whenever you want. Under our old and clearly outmoded Constitution, you had the right to shoot dead anyone who interfered with your rights.

  3. It’s sad that people would stoop to this level of criminal behavior. These are tough times but dealing with your problems by sexually assaulting others is a horrendous act. I hope this lowlife is caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We need to watch out for each other and be aware of our surroundings. Let’s not tolerate this kind of abhorrent behavior.

  4. Jess – are we suppose to lock and barracade ourselves inside from dusk to dawn? This crime is dispicable and the attacker is the lowest form of life. Has anyone noticed this uptick of violent crimes in Mountain View? What is going on?

  5. I understand people work different hours and they have the right to throw garbage out at 4:00 am. BUT . . . . 4:00am IS NOT a safe hour to go outside and throw garbage out, ESPECIALLY in an apartment complex. 4:00 am, it is dark and not too many people are available to be a witness at that hour. I would think the garbage can wait until daylight.

WHY DID SHE WAIT TWO DAYS TO NOTIFY POLICE???????

Did she scream? Did she have her drapes opened too? I’m sorry, too many red flags for me.

Message – PROTECT YOURSELF, BE ALERT and AWARE.

  6. A person should be ale to take out their garbage when they want to. And if they are too surprised, scared or horrified to scream…. then is that their fault? People don’t always think clearly after being victimized….and we cannot second guess what was going through her head…. but DON’T BLAME THE VICTIM!

  7. So parent you are saying that she shouldn’t go out you have to see that it was a weekend she might go out of a club or bar or a party at her friends house and got home at that time don’t you think that it can also happen when you walk from your car to your apartment. I’m also a women that live bymyself in my apt is that mean that I can’t go out on the weekends and get home safe so I have to wait to the next day to get to my house I don’t think so.

  8. SO NEIGHBOR,

I actually had to read your post over a few times to figure out what you are trying to say. I still don’t understand.

So, if you feel you have the right to throw garbage out at at 4:00 am, that’s great, you have that right, GO FOR IT!!!!!but you better be able to defend yourself and not cry to police when you get attacked.

That’s why I said PROTECT YOURSELF, be alert and aware. I guess I should have said BE SMART . . . . . . NOT STUPID.

I suspect she was high on drugs Saturday night, at 4:00 am and then waited two days to notify police.
