A 22-year-old Palo Alto man was struck and killed by a Union Pacific Railroad Co. freight train Monday night north of Churchill Avenue, a Caltrain spokeswoman has said.
The victim was identified by the Santa Clara Coroner’s Office as Samir Mathur. According to Caltrain, he was hit at about 9:30 p.m. on the Caltrain track by Homer Avenue, north of Churchill.
The southbound train remained stopped at about 10:20 p.m. while the coroner was en route, Caltrain spokeswoman Jayme Ackemann said.
Caltrain was operating on a holiday schedule Monday due to Presidents Day, with fewer trains running.
No additional information was immediately available.
