Interested in getting involved with public works projects? The City of Mountain View is seeking applicants for a Citizens Working Group to assist with a feasibility study for the development of the Stevens Creek Corridor.

The group works with agency staff, a consulting team and policy representatives to coordinate the completion of a multi-use trail.

The Citizens Working Group formed in October 2012 with two representatives from each of the four cities involved: Mountain View, Los Altos, Sunnyvale and Cupertino. According to a 2012 release by the Sunnyvale City Council, the goal of the group is to ultimately provide a comprehensive study that will assist the multi-agency Stevens Creek Trail Joint Cities Working Team in evaluating options for uniting completed or planned trail segments.

According to John Marchant of the Mountain View Community Services Department, each of the four cities is looking to add one more representative from each city.

The position, which requires at least a year-long commitment averaging to about two meetings a month, is a hands-on, technically intensive effort that will facilitate public outreach for the Stevens Creek trail development.

The study will outline a number of logistical components to determine preferable alternatives of construction. As detailed in the release, the project will utilize technical engineering analysis, scientific assessment of collected data, and public vetting to isolate a smaller set of practical alternatives for the councils’ use.

For more information about the project, contact John Marchant in the Community Services Department at 650-903-6074 or by email at john.marchant@mountainview.gov. Application review and selection will take place on June 21, 2013.

  1. Notice: Only people with politically correct opinions and viewspoints need apply. Each applicant will be interrogated for a single seventeen hour session in order to ensure that the person has been effectively lobotomized and/or would never dare to say anything truly interesting.

  2. The above comment has no basis in fact or reality. The application IS long, but there is no interview or interrogation. I have served on this Citizens Working Group since it was formed last October 2012. The reason for expanding the group is to gather a wider range of viewpoints. It is a great opportunity for pedestrian and bicycling advocates to make a difference and help to extend the Stevens Creek Trail south out of Mountain View.

Extending the trail won’t be easy, so it needs supporters. Don’t assume it will just happen because the trail is so wonderful. Many haven’t experienced the trail and fear it coming near their home, even if it is on a public street. Share a different view. Get involved.

  3. My post is intended as a reminder of the recent treatment of the Art Committee Chair, who was ousted from his role because he holds views and opinions that are not “politically correct”.

It is unlawful to operate local government in a manner that is not “viewpoint neutral”. Everyone has the same right to participate in our system of self government. Discrimination based upon viewpoint is arguably a violation of the First Amendment as well as of the free speech provision of the Constitution of the State of California.
