Mountain View police report that a missing 68-year-old who suffers from diabetes and early-stage Alzheimer’s disease was found safe Friday evening.
Junji Park has been in the area for one week visiting family for Thanksgiving and walked away from the apartment at 1200 Dale Ave at about 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, said police Sgt. Saul Jaeger. She is not familiar with the area, doesn’t speak English, had no ID or money, and no coat, he said in a press release.
Police reported around 9 p.m. that officers found her and reunited with her family, after being out in the cold for seven hours. She was due for an insulin shot at 10 p.m., police said.
Jaeger described the event as a “nightmare scenario for the family.”
In addition to having early symptoms of Alzheimer’s and being diabetic, Friday night was set to be one of the coldest nights of the year, Jaeger wrote in an email to the Voice.
“Officers searched for a long time throughout the area,” he continued. “Eventually (we) found her wandering throughout an adjacent complex.”
Jaeger said that Park was cold but otherwise OK.
