Caltrain’s annual holiday train will be pulling into Mountain View on Saturday, Dec. 6. Festivities at the station include a performance by the Peninsulaires, an a cappella men’s chorus and member of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

The decorated train is scheduled to pull in at 6:55 p.m. for a 20-minute stopover, with additional performances by the Salvation Army band, and a chance to greet Santa, Mrs. Claus and Frosty the Snowman.

Food trucks will be onsite, in case revelers feel peckish, and representatives from the Salvation Army and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program will be at every station to collect new, unwrapped toy donations.

The train departs from San Francisco at 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6 and 7, making different stops along the way. A full schedule of the Holiday Train’s stops are at caltrain.com.

The Holiday Train is sponsored by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation and a number of Bay Area businesses that contribute to everything from lights to costumes, according to Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn.

  1. Saturday Dec 6th – http://www.holiday-train.org/
“The dazzling show train visits nine stations between San Francisco and San José on December 6 and 7.”

    Saturday, December 6
    Location Arrival
    San Francisco 4:00 p.m.
    Burlingame 5:15 p.m.
    Redwood City 6:15 p.m.
    Mountain View 6:55 p.m.
    Santa Clara 8:10 p.m.

  2. OK, so they’re doing Saint Nicholas stuff for the Christian religion. Now what is CalTrain doing for the Jewish, Hindu, Muslim and Buddhist religions?

  3. Not sure about every single religion, but menorahs and dreidels were part of the decorations last year on the Holiday Train.
If you feel something is missing, did you want to get involved for helping coordinate it next year?

  4. Only 2 choices to correct what Jes Sayin commented about.
STOP all activities because it would be too expensive to accommodate everyone or
spend what it costs for the activities FOR ALL RELIGIONS.
I think eventually the first choice will eventually become law because instead of people learning, enjoying and accepting what has been traditional in Americas society for many years. Some instead want exactly what everyone else wants or they will find a way to change it. I have been to other countries and if while visiting I asked for what Jes Sayin mentioned, they would give me a one way ticket out or just laugh at me. But because this is America, land of the free, some will find a way to take the FUN for kids out of the holidays. At any cost.

Wish I was wrong and wish you all a
    Happy Thanksgiving

  5. Oh, people like jes sayin are simply trying to stir up their hobby: arguing about the War on Christmas…its one of those pet issues people sometimes try and steer the conversation towards, even (especially) when it has zero to do with the actual topic at hand.

  6. Why is it that 99% of those who post comments hide behind pseudonyms rather than use their real names?

If a needy Muslim, Jewish or Atheist family requests a toy from the local nonprofits participating in the Toys for Tots program I am sure they will not be denied. It is called the HOLIDAY train, not the ‘Saint Nicholas’ Train or the ‘Baby Jesus Birthday Train’, so let’s just relax and enjoy the festivities.

  7. BTW – As noted this is an effort to collect toys for needy families, we went to this a couple of years ago, and a lot of people showed up empty handed. Remember to bring something, it does not have to be expensive, Books Inc, has lots of hardcover children’s book which have been marked down, Marshall’s has inexpensive toys. Let your kids pick out the gift and put it in the toy donation barrel, or maybe have them donate one of their own new toys (possibly acquired through their last birthday party windfall). Good way for them to learn that giving can feel as good as receiving.
