The Mountain View City Council is set to vote Tuesday to approve using $5.5 million toward a project to improve state Highway 237 at Middlefield Road using funds from a city agreement with LinkedIn.
The project has been in the works since 2005 and would move the westbound Highway 237 on-ramp to protect pedestrians, prevent collisions and reduce traffic congestion.
LinkedIn agreed to an $11 million community benefits package in November 2018 for its project at 700 E. Middlefield Road, and city officials plan to use $5.5 million for the environmental review and design of the Middlefield Road project.
If the project is approved, the city will pay the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority to carry out the review, design and further planning. These steps are planned for completion by March 2022.
The approval requires five “yes” votes from the seven-member City Council, and the meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at 500 Castro St.

It’s about time they do something about this horrendous interchange. The roads leading into the exit and around the cloverleaf are terrible as well as the Eastbound side. Too many patchwork, cracks and potholes. This intersection has been neglected for far too long. The design for these exits were not designed for the sheer volume of vehicles going through here.
237-middlefield does not have cloverleaf, those only exist further north at 101 and south at 85. Once of the plans I saw for this spot was a “diverging diamond” setup.
I always regret taking S Whisman to 237 West at rush hour. You hit this wall of cars lined up on 237 waiting to go on 85S. Trying to merge through this wall and into the fast moving traffic on 237 is treacherous. Will this LinkedIn development improve this?
