Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian will hold “sidewalk office hours” this weekend in Palo Alto and Mountain View where community members can raise concerns on local issues and ask questions.
“It is immensely helpful to hear from folks directly,” Simitiain said. “The convenience to walk up and share perspectives is invaluable.”
Simitian hosts 12 events during the fall and spring, visiting each city within his district, which covers the northwest corner of the county. He holds his sidewalk office hours at local farmers markets to connect with constituents and hear issues that affect the community.
“After many years, the office hours are always lively and people appreciate being able to talk to their elected officials directly,” Simitian said.
Meeting at farmers markets provides a relaxed environment where Simitian can keep in touch with those he represents directly through conversations that are easily accessible, according to Simitian’s office.
No appointment is required and everyone is invited to speak with Simitian at his sidewalk office hours this weekend at the following times and locations:
Downtown Palo Alto Farmers Market
Saturday, Oct. 26
10-11:30 a.m.
Located on Gilman Street near the post office
Mountain View Farmers Market
Sunday, Oct. 27
10-11:30 a.m.
Located at California and Bryant streets

Supervisor Simitian is an effective civil servant, but these newspaper flyers all these years, how much paper and money is wasted? If he has extra campaign dollars, wish he could hire local young adults to grow civic engagement. If it’s franking/mailing privlleges using public dollars, then all the more reason to cut back.
> Trump supporters are sometimes heard but seldom seen.
Completely Understandable.
Of course, they’re too embarrassed to post under their names or show up in public. They’re not *that* dumb.
Agreed. They’re not quite that dumb.l
Politicians should be required to hold public meetings and Town Halls. I’ve heard Devin Nunes hasn’t met his constituents in years just donors.
@free: guys that wear gun related clothing always provide my gf a hearty laugh. As she says “someone is over compensating for shortages elsewhere!”
Kind of like those dweebs in sports cars.
Making up a story about a sledge hammer and a bumper sticker? That’s another cry for help.
Oh yeah, in your false claims about so-called liberals, you misquoted Nietzsche.
I don’t trust anonymous posters. 30 or Not.
Especially those that paint entire groups with old phrases from 50 years ago.
Love it or leave it. (see?)
Joe Simitian is very knowledgable and impressive. To liven it up, maybe some protesters will appear. A bunch of county employees are complaining about the terms of their employment. They could be countered by a group of overpaid – underworked county administrators or lawyers. Better yet, how about Democrat activists vs. Trump supporters? In Mountain View, Trump supporters are sometimes heard but seldom seen.

>Better yet, how about Democrat activists vs. Trump supporters? In Mountain View, Trump supporters are sometimes heard but seldom seen.<
I remember when I had an old National Rifle Association bumper-sticker on my car right next to my Re-Elect Bill Clinton bumper-sticker.
Those stickers were both peacefully side-by-side for several years until someone here in oh-so “tolerant” Mountain View repeatedly took a sledge hammer to my car to remove the NRA sticker while they carefully avoided defacing the Bill Clinton sticker.
Some years later, I was peacefully sitting in a public place when I was suddenly confronted by a M.V. cop with his gun drawn. He was extremely agitated, so I didn’t move, I just kept both hands in plain view holding my newspaper open and waited for him to speak. The cop looked at me and my T-shirt and he began to swear a blue-streak as he put his gun away.
Turns out, there were people making fake “dangerous man with a gun” 911 calls on people just for wearing a gun-logo T-shirt or having a gun related bumper-sticker. He called it “swatting” and it had become a real hassle for the cops and dangerous for innocent people.
By the time Trump came along, I had learned my lesson and never put another bumper-sticker on my car nor any political signs where I live nor do I wear anything that might draw the hate of the oh-so tolerant liberals of our city.
Now, while I am still a registered Democrat (as I have always been), I vote & donate Republican until it’s safe around here to be “different” from the self-righteous people who call themselves liberals.
The saddest thing about being a TRUE life-long Liberal is seeing what has happened to the people who call themselves liberals (progressives) today.
Liberals forgot their own wisdom:
“Don’t trust anyone over 30.”
“Choose your enemies wisely, for YOU will become THEM!”
The people who now consider themselves liberals (progressives) have indeed become the very people that they hated when they were younger. They excuse the use of violence against and seek to silence anyone who has a different opinion than what is currently “politically correct”.

I guess ignorance really is bliss for some people.
Gun-haters only have one old script and couldn’t come up with new material if their lives depended on it.
My wife has more gun shirts than I have, she prefers big, long, hard hitting, large caliber and loud, which is why she shoots .44magnum long barrel.
I prefer tight, light, best engineering, medium size, reliable, accurate and prolonged function, which is why I prefer 9mm Glock.
When she fires off one of her hand-cannons, all the other shooters stop what they are doing and come over to see this woman firing such a powerful weapon. The next one she wants is a .50cal Smith & Wesson.
I’d like a .17cal target rifle myself.

>you misquoted Nietzsche.<
I never said who I was quoting, but for the record, my quote was what I grew up with in the 1960s and 1970s as the common bit of wisdom about making sure you are making an enemy for the right reasons because the more you focus your hate on them, the more like them you become.
I also don't know exactly who originated the wise words:
"Don't trust anyone over 30."
All the baby boomers forgot all about that one the day they turned 30 themselves and became the very people they hated.
The actual Friedrich Nietzsche quote is more wordy:
"Be careful who you choose as your enemy because that's who you become most like."
