Light rain and thunderstorms are expected in the Bay Area through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain had already fallen in the North Bay as of 10 p.m. Monday with as much as six-tenths of an inch in some areas.
The rain will spread further south and east Tuesday into Wednesday with thunderstorms most likely near the coast.
Small hail, infrequent lightning, brief downpours, and wind gusts of more than 35 mph are also possible.
Weather officials said for the most part the rain is expected to be light enough that it will not cause debris flows from areas burned by wildfires.
But any thunderstorms that develop will need to be monitored because related heavy downpours could cause those flows, according to weather officials.
Cold associated with the rain will likely bring snow to places as low as 3000 feet above sea level. The highest peaks in the region could see some accumulation.
Dry conditions are expected late in the week, but temperatures will be cold overnight and into the morning.
