Teri Faught, a former high school assistant principal and the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District’s current distance learning coordinator, has been named associate superintendent of educational services, a senior position responsible for overseeing the district’s instructional program.

The school board unanimously approved her appointment on Monday, and she’ll assume the new job effective this week.

Faught is a longtime educator who previously taught earth science, biology, and AP environmental science at Mountain View High School. She served as assistant principal there from 2017 to 2020. She also served on the district’s instructional support team, where she worked on science and educational technology. Since last summer, Faught stepped into the brand new position of distance learning coordinator, in which she oversaw the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of online and alternative learning offerings.

“Teri has done an exceptional job helping us navigate uncharted territory through a pandemic and design and implement a rigorous distance learning program. These experiences, in addition to her extensive instructional qualifications, made her the ideal candidate,” Superintendent Nellie Meyer said in an announcement. “She is well-versed on emerging trends in education, the latest educational research findings, and the integration of educational technology in the curriculum — assets in implementing our overall educational program.”

In the announcement, Faught said she plans to focus on equity in the new role.

“I want to ensure every student and every parent feels they belong on our campuses and their voices are heard,” she said. “I also want to ensure that, no matter what group or community a student identifies with, that they are affirmed, celebrated, and supported to grow and thrive in our district.”

Faught also taught high school science in Palatine, Illinois, for five years and has served on the California Science Teacher Association Board of Directors for two years. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth Science from Western Michigan University and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from San Jose State University.
