If there’s room in your heart and room in your yard, Professor Truffles might be the perfect pet. The 9-year-old male pot-bellied pig is seeking a new home where he can wallow contentedly.
The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA (PHS/SPCA) has taken in the pig, whose family surrendered him when they had to move and couldn’t take him along.
“As an open admission shelter, we accept all kinds of animals, including pigs, although they are not common animals that come through our doors,” PHS/SPCA Communications Manager Buffy Martin Tarbox said in a statement. “We are committed to finding him a new loving home with experienced pig owners where he will be kept as a pet, not a source of food.”
His name is an homage to the famous truffle hunting pigs, but Professor Truffles is more interested in noshing on carrots and apples than in seeking out the pricey fungi, Tarbox said.
Professor Truffles is unaltered and weighs approximately 150 pounds. He’s currently overweight and needs a home dedicated to helping him trim down and maintain a healthy weight.
“Professor Truffles is extremely friendly and will make a wonderful pet for someone who has the space he’ll need to thrive and live a happy life. Pigs can live on average 12 to 18 years. Their diet consists of pig pellets, fresh vegetables & fruits and alfalfa hay,” Tarbox said.
People interested in meeting Professor Truffles can call PHS/SPCA at 650-340-7022. His adoption fee will be waived for qualified adopters.

I wonder if they’ve reached out to Deer Hollow Farm? Perhaps he would enjoy interacting with visitors.
