Mountain View’s minimum wage will increase to $19.20 per hour on Jan. 1, a 2.4% increase over the current $18.75 pay floor.
The city’s minimum wage has nearly doubled over the past decade from $10.30 in 2015. That was the year that the City Council passed an ordinance to increase the local minimum wage over time.
Between 2016 and 2018, Mountain View’s minimum wage increased in stages until it hit $15 per hour. From 2019 onwards, the city’s minimum wage increases each January based on regional inflation, per the ordinance.
Mountain View’s minimum wage applies to any employer who is subject to the city’s business license tax or maintains a facility in Mountain View. Employees who perform at least two hours of work per week in Mountain View are covered, according to the city’s website. The pay floor applies to both adults and minors and does not include tips.
According to the city, employees who assert their right to receive the minimum wage have protections against retaliation and can file lawsuits against their employers for violations of the minimum wage ordinance. They can also file complaints with the city manager’s office.
Mountain View’s minimum wage is higher than many nearby cities. Starting January 1, Palo Alto and Los Altos will both have a minimum wage of $18.20. Sunnyvale’s minimum wage will be $19.20.

Always helpful to know that the panhandlers find $19.20/hr not worth their time……
