Crews are working to install 5,200 feet of new water pipes along Grant Road, near Mountain View High School and Oak Avenue Elementary School, which may impact traffic in the surrounding area for the next few months.
California Water Service, the regional water utility, is undertaking infrastructure upgrades in Los Altos and Sunnyvale aimed at improving the reliability of water supplies and fire protection, according to a press release. In total, crews are expected to install nearly 8,600 feet of new water main.
The Los Altos project is taking place near the Mountain View border, along Grant Road from Portland Avenue to Foothill Expressway. Cal Water will replace existing 10-inch water main with 12-inch main to increase water flow, install 10 new fire hydrants and create 49 additional service connections.
Construction is expected to last through July, with crews working Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Traffic controls are in place to help reduce delays, the press release said.
“Upgrades like these are what help strengthen our water system and have kept us serving our customers’ everyday and emergency needs for 100 years,” Los Altos Suburban District Manager Dawn Smithson said in the press release.
While the project in Los Altos is underway, Cal Water is also working to add 3,390 feet of new water main along Carlisle Way in Sunnyvale, as well as 10 fire hydrants and 112 service connections. Crews will work there from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
