Two of this week’s stories feature homes that open to the community in unique ways.

Late last year, San Mateo resident Christina Wu started Table for 6, a brunch and tea party dining experience that she operates out of her home. Christina serves seasonal food prepared with local ingredients, making nearly everything from scratch. It’s open on weekends by reservation only, with 10 indoor seats and six outdoor spots. Christina also offers a vegan tea party menu, plus vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options. Bites include freshly baked breads, tea cookies, homemade quiche, tea sandwiches and a dessert platter. Edwina Dueñas has the tea on how Table for 6 got its start.

And Karla Kane found out what it takes to bring Hollywood to your doorstep by having your home featured in a movie. More than 30 movies have been filmed in San Mateo County over the years, and it’s a way for homeowners to generate extra income in addition to earning a new claim to fame.

How a San Mateo woman turned her home into a brunch and tea party microkitchen

A new Peninsula reservation-only brunch and tea party spot isn’t located downtown or in a strip mall – it’s inside owner Christina Wu’s home in the San Mateo Highlands.

Upping their game: Peninsula company Boosted Reality aims to bring together tabletop gaming and high tech

What happens when two friends share a passion for board games, experience in tech and an entrepreneurial spirit? In the case of Peninsula residents Steve Holmes and Jeremy Bennett, the result of those mutual interests is a gaming platform that combines table-top games with the tech available on most phones to provide an enhanced experience.

Lights, camera, action: How to make your Peninsula home available to filmmakers (and what to expect when they’re there)

While Hollywood may still be the center of the U.S. film industry, movies and videos are also shot right here in the Bay Area, including in local residences. Homeowners can get in on the action by making their space available for film shoots.

Congrats to Bubby of Belmont, who was the first reader to correctly identify where last week’s photo was taken (it’s Huddart Park in Woodside!).
