With the November General Election less than 50 days away, the Mountain View Voice’s 2026 Election Center is officially live. We’ve created the Election Center as a one-stop shop where you can find all of our latest coverage of the local races on your ballot.
The page is currently highlighting the election reporting we’ve produced to date, with the most recent showing up first. That includes an explainer about a ballot measure that would update the City Charter, a story about a recent City Council candidate forum and an article summing up all the local candidates running for office.
Our Election Center also features a list of voting resources, including a calendar of key dates, information about submitting your ballot in-person or by mail, and help making sure you are registered to vote.
We will also soon be sharing information about our plans to host live forums, which will give voters the chance to hear from candidates directly on the issues.
We’re launching our Election Center in coordination with a broader initiative to make our news coverage accessible for all during election season. Embarcadero Media Foundation, the nonprofit organization that operates the Voice, has dropped the paywall on our site – and plans to keep it down at least through Nov. 6. This means our audience members can read as many stories as they want for free.
Our goal is to remove the paywall for good, but that doesn’t come without cost. To help make this move permanent, we’ve launched an “Unlock Nonprofit News” fundraising campaign.
What we’ve got on the docket
While we’ve already been reporting on the coming election for months, we’ve got much more in the works. In the next several weeks, the Voice will be producing detailed coverage about each of the local races and measures this November:

- Mountain View Whisman School District Board of Trustees
- Mountain View Los Altos High School District Board of Trustees – Area 3
- Los Altos School District Board of Trustees
- Santa Clara Valley Water District Board of Directors – District 7
- Measure F – Mountain View hotel tax measure
- Measure E – Mountain View City Charter updates
- Measure S – Term limits for El Camino Healthcare District Board of Directors
When ballots go out on Oct. 5, we will launch our 2026 Voter Guide. This will be a dedicated page, linked prominently on our main Election Center, that provides organized and comprehensive information to help you fill out your ballot. The Voter Guide will sort our articles into sections for each race and ballot proposition.
In the Voter Guide, you will find candidate profiles, campaign finance reporting and coverage of local ballot measures. For the major local races, we will also publish grids comparing the candidates’ stances on the issues. To produce these, we are sending each candidate a detailed questionnaire, asking where they stand on a variety of important topics. We will then publish their responses side-by-side.
