
The month of March marks the start of spring, the return of the eponymous March Madness and celebrations for Holi, St. Patrick’s Day and the Persian New Year. It’s also Women’s History Month, and Peninsula institutions are partaking by hosting exhibits, concerts, craft activities and more festivities recognizing the contributions of women all over the world. And Adrienne Mitchel’s latest food feature highlights three women-owned bakeries showcasing flavors from South Asia, Hong Kong and the Philippines. One of my favorite quotes from Adrienne’s story was from Cloud & Crumb bakery owner Kat Liu, who decided to pursue her lifelong baking passion after the death of her aunt. “I want people to know that small dreams are worth pursuing,” she said. “It’s not a bad thing to follow your heart, to do what you like, just because you’re not following the path that society agrees with.”
