High-tech foodies: burger robots and Cybertruck coffee

Cuisine reflects the landscape. In colder climates, hearty stews are a big part of the food culture. In coastal areas, fish is prepared in a myriad of ways. And in Silicon Valley, entrepreneurs are using technology to innovate what weβre eating.
This week, I talked with Liz Truong, whose love for food automation and her family drove her to invent Burger Bots, which will soon be launching at her restaurant Breaking Dawn and soon-to-open dinner concept First Born. I also talked with former tech employees Ming Wood and Mabel Yeung on their unique business concept: coffee served out of the back of a Cybertruck.
It doesnβt get more Silicon Valley than this.
Stay tasty,
Adrienne

Robots will soon be crafting juicy burgers and crispy chicken sandwiches next to a DJ mixing upbeat tunes inside a former historic bank in Los Gatos.Β For Oishi Mirai Restaurant Group founder Elizabeth Truong, the project is a significant step toward the legacy she hopes to leave behind.

Cafe chicheme at Moonwake Coffee Roasters
A coffee pop-up built out of the back of a Cybertruck selling espresso topped with corn almost sounds like a fever dream. But I assure you itβs real, and you can find it at West Coast Farmers Market in Cupertino on Sundays.
The brainchild of a former Meta project manager and Tesla software engineer, Moonwake Coffee Roasters was established long before the Cybertruck and will open a brick and mortar in West San Jose later this year.
I decided to order the cafe chicheme ($7), an iced espresso with vanilla, cinnamon and honey topped with a sweet corn cream. The iced espresso was smooth and very lightly sweetened but was a bit acidic for my taste (I prefer a lower-acidity espresso bean.) While the corn cream was very tasty, the coffee and cinnamon overpowered the corn flavor. I wouldnβt order this particular drink again, but Iβm very interested in trying out their other beverages, like their Milo mocha.
