Local residents who died recently include:

Dwight Delong Clark, 92, of Palo Alto, who earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stanford University, who was an organizer of the first anti-nuclear testing demonstration at Stanford in 1957, who arranged for Stanford students in the early 1960s to register voters in the South, and who founded cultural exchange organizations Volunteers in Asia and Learning Across Borders, died on Feb. 22.

Jerry Pierce, 73, of Redwood City, who graduated from Stanford University, who worked at SRI and Universal Studios, who helped with the standardization and launch of the DVD and digital camera, and who was an avid backpacker, died on April 12.

Val Blanchette, 92, of Portola Valley, who was born in Liverpool, England, who earned two master’s degrees from Stanford University and who was the mother to six children, died on Feb. 20.
