Local residents who have died recently include:
Walter Bretall, 93, a former Menlo Park resident and financial analyst with investment management company Harris, Bretall, Sullivan and Smith, who was an avid skier and tennis player, and who loved music and traveling, died in Sun Valley on July 3.
Samuel Silverstein, 35, a resident of Atherton and San Francisco, was gifted artist, talented athlete and fourth-generation optician who had a quick wit and an infectious laugh, died on July 28.
Marybelle F. Cody, 89, who was born in Coronado and later moved from Hawaii to attend Stanford University where she earned a master’s in education, who raised three children in Palo Alto, and who enjoyed biking, hiking, sailing, traveling, folk dancing, gardening and reading, died May 22.
Sharon Lynn Kelley, 85, a Portola Valley resident of 53 years who was born in Yuba City, was an SF Zoo docent for many years, played a mean game of dominoes and who enjoyed gardening, tennis, skiing, Lake Tahoe, world travel and wildlife of all kinds, died July 29.
