Local residents who died recently include:
Katherine Stoplosek-Pirslin, 97, of Portola Valley, who was born in Croatia and escaped German educational camps during World War II, who eventually made it to America and who in the 1970s co-founded with her two brothers the semiconductor company Quartz International, Inc., which was later sold to Toshiba, and who leaves behind a legacy of perseverance and entrepreneurship, died on Aug. 13
Michael Rabinovitch, 53, of San Francisco, who was born in London, who moved to Los Altos Hills with his family in 1983, who graduated from Gunn High School before moving to Europe for a career in finance that took him to Geneva, London and Stuttgart, who had a large community of friends in San Francisco and Napa, who had an encyclopedic knowledge of song lyrics, and who was an avid art lover and collector, died of an acute heart attack on Aug. 26.
