A leaky water pump has put a pause to summer fun at Rengstorff Park’s activity pool in Mountain View.
City staff were conducting routine inspections Tuesday when they identified a leaking pump connected to the activity pool, city spokesperson Brian Babcock told the Mountain View Voice. Staff monitored the leak for a few days, before closing the pool Friday. The adjacent lap pool remains open.
The pump problem comes just over a year after the Rengstorff Park Aquatics Center reopened following major construction. Work on the $29 million project started in May 2022, but multiple delays pushed out the project’s completion.
The activity pool, including the waterslide, will now be closed as crews with Knorr Systems work to repair the pump. The pool is expected to reopen sometime during the week of July 20.
The cause of the leak is unknown, Babcock said, as is how much repairs will cost. The city expects to have more information once Knorr Systems completes its inspection, Babcock said.
During the repairs, there won’t be recreation swim at Rengstorff. Instead, weekday recreation swim will instead be held 12:30-2:30 p.m. at Eagle Park Pool. Friday night swim will also be moved there.
There will also be some schedule changes for the Rengstorff lap pool, including reduced lanes from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Water exercise and swim lesson participants will be notified if their classes are affected by the activity pool closure.
The city hopes to fix the pump as quickly as possible, as the activity pool is a popular summer attraction for families, Babcock said.

I hope the city has a warranty
