A Mountain View pedestrian sustained major injuries from a vehicle collision Sunday evening that led to the arrest of a suspect for driving under the influence, according to the Mountain View police.
Officers responded to a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian around 9:50 p.m. on Aug. 31 at the intersection of West El Camino Real and Miramonte Avenue. The pedestrian, a 64-year-old man, was headed southbound across El Camino in the west crosswalk at the time of the collision, according to police spokesperson Monica Leon.
Leon said the pedestrian sustained “serious injuries” and was transported to a local hospital. She declined to provide more information about the extent of his injuries and said she did not know whether the patient had been discharged from the hospital.
The case is currently under investigation and all information is still preliminary, Leon said.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of causing bodily injury to another person while driving under the influence and was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail, Leon said.
Last month, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot in Mountain View. There have been at least two other pedestrian fatalities from vehicle collisions in the city this year.
