Palo Alto’s Max Felter and Cade Creighton each won an individual title at the Webber Lawson wrestling Invitational at Fremont High in Sunnyvale on Saturday.

St. Francis Ryan Luna also won an individual title, helping the Lancers finish second to defending Central Coast Section champion Gilroy.

Felter won the 170-pound title, beating Riordan’s David Aberouette 12-6 in the championship round. Creighton pinned Evergreen Valley’s Chris Wright at 5:19 in the 195-pound division. The Vikings placed sixth overall.

Felter and Creighton also won titles at the Peninsula Invitational in Half Moon Bay. For Felter, it was his first tournament title.

Mountain View was 20th and Gunn 21st.

Ryan Luna won the 152-pound title with a 5-0 decision over Gilroy’s Rueben Lee.

Four other St. Francis wrestlers reached the championship round: Ryan Lee at 182, Matthew Luna at 138, Bryce Luna at 132 and Diego Barajas at 106 and all placed second.

Leonardo Maiuolo placed fourth at 145 and DJ Scott finished sixth at 285 for the Lancers.

Other Paly placers included Josh Wilde (6th, 120), Philip Santiago (7th, 132), and Tiep Nguyen (7th, 190). Mountain View’s Chris Conaway was third at 220. Gunn had two placers: Jonathan Mar (6th, 126) and Bryan Ayon-Ruiz (6th, 145).

Boys basketball

Gunn scored 25 points in the second quarter to break open a close game and beat Pinewood 63-32 in a non-league game Saturday.

Rogan Gibbons scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds to pace the Titans (7-1). Jack Hakeman added 16 points and Ethan Cheng and James Ford each added 12.

Jaden Norwood scored 14 points to lead Pinewood.

At the Merv Harris Classic in San Mateo, host Serra downed Sequoia 72-34, and St. Francis edged Mountain View 51-45.

At the Miramonte Invitational, Palo Alto beat Balboa 76-39.

Girls basketball

Menlo School fell to Burlingame 50-33 in the championship game of the Terra Nova Tournament on Saturday.

The short-handed Knights (4-2) fell behind 25-12 at the half and never recovered.

Junior Jordan Brooks, who was named to the all-tournament team, scored nine points for Menlo. Junior Riley Jensen added seven.

Priory beat host Terra Nova 71-23 and Sacred Heart Prep fell to Oakland Tech in other tournament games.

Valentina Saric scored 67 points and had 23 rebounds For Priory over the course of the three-day tournament. Bianca Shi scored 20 points against Terra Nova while Sunishka Kartik added 31 points and 13 rebounds in the first two games.

Natalie Neumann scored 18 points and Palo Alto handed Santa Teresa its first loss, beating the Saints 63-47 at the Leland Shootout on Saturday. Kaella Peters and Vienn Sheng each hit three 3-pointers en route to 11 points.

In other games, Sequoia fell to San Benito 38-33, St. Ignatius edged Pinewood 59-54 and St. Francis defeated Hillsdale 79-37 as part of the Leland Shootout.

Los Altos topped Lynbrook 42-29, also at Leland. Lynbrook drew within 26-23 before Tessa Player sank a 3-pointer and then hit another basket to spark a run that nailed down the win.

Abby Liu and Mira Sunder also contributed key baskets for the Eagles.
