Submit an Obituary

The Mountain View Voice publishes online obituaries for local residents free of charge. To submit an obituary, fill out the form below. All submissions will be reviewed by our staff before being approved and posted.

Obituary submissions will also be shared on the websites of our three Peninsula sister publications: The Almanac, Palo Alto Online and Redwood City Pulse. For this reason, please do not submit the same obituary to more than one of our sites.

While the Voice is entirely online, we offer the option to publish paid obituaries in the print editions of our other papers: The Almanac, Palo Alto Weekly and Pleasanton Weekly. For more information on print obituaries, view our Pricing and FAQ page.

How long will the obituary stay online?

Obituaries are displayed on the Community Obituaries page based on the publication date. Once approved, the link you receive will remain active indefinitely.

When will the obit appear online?

Online submissions are typically approved within 1–2 business days. If you need expedited approval, please contact obituaries@embarcaderomedia.org and include the name of the decedent in your email.

What are the copy deadlines for Friday’s print edition?

The Almanac – 11 a.m. on Monday
Pleasanton Weekly – 10 a.m. on Tuesday
Palo Alto Weekly – 12 p.m. on Tuesday

What photo size and format should I upload?

Photos should be vertical, at least 600 pixels wide and in JPG, JPEG or PNG format.

How do I obtain physical copies?

We will mail 3 copies for free, 4-10 copies for $15, and 10+ copies for $30. Free copies are available at the office. Contact obituaries@embarcaderomedia.org to arrange for pickup, payment or where to deliver.

How do you make changes on an online obituary or cancel the print obituary?

Please contact obituaries@embarcaderomedia.org, reference the name of the decedent and include edits for your online submission or request a cancellation.

Where will my online obituary appear?

Embarcadero Media Foundation has four news publications on the Peninsula and three in the East Bay. When you submit an obituary to any of our sites, it will typically be published to all of the publications in that region.

This means that obituaries submitted to any of our Peninsula publications – Mountain View Voice, Palo Alto Online, The Almanac and Redwood City Pulse – will appear on all four sites.

Obituaries submitted to any of our East Bay publications – Pleasanton Weekly, Livermore Vine and DanvilleSanRamon.com – will appear on all three sites.

For this reason, please do not submit an obituary to more than one publication within a region. This could result in the obituary showing up multiple times on the same site.
