Update: Charleston Road has been reopened as of Friday afternoon, according to a city statement.

A water main break has shut down a portion of Charleston Road in Mountain View, with crews working around the clock to fix it so that the throughway can reopen later today, according to an update from the city on Aug. 30.

The section of Charleston Road, between Huff Avenue and Shoreline Boulevard, has been closed to traffic since Thursday afternoon, Aug. 29, because of a broken water line. That evening, the city reported that it had isolated the break, which occurred at Charleston Road and Joaquin Road, and were working to repair it.

The water main break also caused high water flows through a large part of Mountain View’s water system. As a result, residents could be seeing discolored water flowing from their facets, the city said.

The city has encouraged residents to run their water to clear it. It also said that discoloration was normal in these kinds of events and that the water was safe.
