Fully electrified service on Caltrain began over the weekend, as the agency rolled out its new schedule and fully electric fleet to much fanfare. Celebrations have been ongoing since the agency’s soft rollout of the switch in mid-August.
But this weekend marked the official start of Caltrain’s 100% renewable, zero-emission service from San Jose to San Francisco, a $2.4 billion project now complete. The agency hosted gatherings across its network, including in Redwood City and Palo Alto, where local leaders and riders celebrated the official switch.
The new trains are faster and more frequent — each with seven cars rather than five or six — and boast Wi-Fi, digital displays and other amenities, the agency says. The new train schedules are available online at https://www.caltrain.com/go.
