Update: The four impacted light rail stations resumed full service at 7 a.m. Wednesday, according to a VTA press release. Crews worked through the night to repair a disconnected electrical line near Crossman Station.
Four light rail stations in Mountain View and Sunnyvale are currently out of service, impacting commuters using VTA’s Orange Line.
The Borregas, Lockheed Martin, Moffett Park and Bayshore/NASA stations were all closed early Tuesday morning due to an electrical issue, according to VTA spokesperson Stacey Hendler Ross.
In the absence of light rail service, VTA has arranged for buses to take passengers between the Crossman and Middlefield stations.
From Middlefield, light rail service is running to the Whisman and Mountain View stations, a VTA press release said. Light rail service is also continuing eastbound from Crossman Station.
Around 6 a.m. Tuesday, a conductor noticed a disconnected overhead electrical line near Crossman Station and immediately stopped the train, Hendler Ross said. It is still not known what exactly caused the disconnection, she said.
Since then, VTA crews have been trying to restore service. However, the stations aren’t currently expected to reopen today, Hendler Ross told the Voice around 3:30 p.m.
The damage was severe, she added, noting that crews likely would be working overnight.
