Counterfeit Currency, 2/3
Around noon, a male suspect attempted to pass four counterfeit $100 bills at the Wal-Mart on the 600 block of Showers Drive. The clerk determined that the bills were counterfeit and called Mountain View police, who arrived and took the suspect into custody. A local unit of the Secret Service was also dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation.
Grand Theft Internet Fraud, 2/2
Mountain View police have filed a courtesy report for a woman who was defrauded into wiring money to someone that she met on the Craigslist.com.
The suspect, who lived in Hollywood, Fla., claimed that he was selling a puppy online. The woman became apprehensive about the deal and only sent half the money. She then realized that she had been defrauded when there was no response to the contact number the suspect had given.
The suspect was identified by Florida police and has been arrested and charged with grand theft and Internet fraud.
