Thank you Mountain View for the free shredding service
Editor:Thanks to the Mountain View Public Works Department, the Police Department and “Shred-it” for providing the free service on Saturday, March 11.
The idea was excellent and so was the organization. Though people can shred at home, this was fast and easy and an opportunity for the shredded paper and media to be recycled. This is also yet another way of helping prevent identity theft.
Let’s hope this will happen at least once a year in the future.

Bring our soldiers home from Iraq
Editor:With 2,300 U.S. military personnel killed in Iraq and 100,000 Iraqis dead, one would expect a serious debate about the U.S. vs. Iraq strategy in Washington. Instead, the Bush Administration has asked for an additional $65 billion in emergency funding to pay for more of the same failed policy.
To make it harder to reject, the bill includes $19 billion for Gulf Coast recovery work and $4.3 billion in badly needed foreign assistance for Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Darfur region.
If the war were to end now, this tragic misadventure would have cost every U.S. household $2,250. That does not include debt payments on the money we’ve borrowed to fund the war.
Instead of giving more money to Halliburton and the Pentagon and destroying more families here and in Iraq, Congress should reject further funding for the war and begin discussing ways to bring our troops home and to help build a stable Iraq.
