The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the Bay Area that will be in effect from Friday through Sunday night.
Rain began falling in the North Bay early Friday and was spreading south over the course of the day. The flood watch is in effect from noon Friday through 10 p.m. Sunday because of excessive runoff that may result in flooding in some places, according to the weather service.
Forecasters advised people living in areas prone to flooding to prepare by taking actions like cleaning gutters and storm drains. The North Bay is at most risk of higher rainfall amounts, with up to 8 inches possible over the next week in parts of northern Sonoma County.
The rain in the region over the next week is expected to be accompanied by gusty winds and daytime temperatures in the 50s to low 60s, with morning lows in the 40s to low 50s, according to the weather service.
