Although the remaining summer days are dwindling, the heat is ramping up in Mountain View and across the Bay Area. In response, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory and the city has opened cooling centers.
Temperatures in Mountain View are expected to hit 95 degrees Wednesday and 89 degrees Thursday, with the heat advisory scheduled to last until 10 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Three cooling centers are open in Mountain View for those looking for respite from the sweltering heat:
- Police Services Fire Administration Building, 1000 Villa St. The lobby will be open to the public 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
- Mountain View Community Center, 201 S. Rengstorff Ave. The lobby will be open to the public 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
- Mountain View Public Library, 585 Franklin St. The library will be open to the public 10 a.m. to 9 p.m Wednesday and Thursday.
The Mountain View Fire Department also shared tips in a press release to keep safe during the heat, including staying in air-conditioned areas, limiting outdoor activities during peak heat, staying hydrated, being aware of pavement temperature when taking out pets and avoiding leaving children or animals in cars. The department also encouraged residents to check in on neighbors and relatives during the heat wave.
