Police arrested a 26-year-old man after he allegedly took a shirt from a Walgreens store without paying, and threatened an employee who had asked him to pay for the shirt.

Thomas Steck, who is believed to be a transient, entered the Walgreens at 112 N. Rengstorff Avenue on Sunday, Aug. 9 at around 9 a.m. and allegedly grabbed a shirt from the store and attempted to leave without paying for it, according to police spokesperson Shino Tanaka.

When confronted by a store employee, Steck began flailing his arms as if he was going to hit him, and pushed another employee as he headed for the door, Tanaka said. He was seen leaving the area on a bike heading westbound on Central Expressway.

Officers later located Steck at Mayfield Avenue, and he was arrested on charges of robbery and possession of stolen property. He was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on a $60,000 bail.

  1. That must have been some elegant Walgreen’s shirt!
Hopefully he’ll get treatment. He’ll at least get some detox time in jail.

  2. This man obviously has mental illness. He won’t “dry out” in jail. It is a waste of tax dollars, put that money into a treatment program for the many that are jailed because of mental illness.
