A fast-moving vegetation fire burned about half an acre near Shoreline Park in Mountain View Saturday night before firefighters stopped it from spreading farther.
A 911 call came in at 10:32 p.m. June 13, reporting “a loud explosion and smoke” in the 2900 block of N. Shoreline Boulevard, according to a Mountain View Fire Department press release.
Firefighters arrived on scene seven minutes later and found a 25-foot-by-200-foot area of vegetation and grass actively burning through dry vegetation toward city-owned property and Shoreline Park, the release said.
The fire was located on North Road, east of the Shoreline Dog Park and across the street from Crittenden Hill.
Firefighters used hose lines from “four apparatus on scene” to conduct a “mobile fire attack,” the release said.
No injuries were reported. The residents of the city’s nearby safe parking lot for those living in RVs and other vehicles were not impacted, fire department spokesperson Robert Maitland said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but Maitland said fireworkers are being considered as one possible cause, both because of the explosion sound and the fact that Pacific Gas & Electric found no transformer or power-line problems in the area. However, investigators did not locate fireworks debris at the scene, Maitland added.
Mountain View police provided traffic control for about 90 minutes while emergency crews worked in the area.
In its release, the fire department reminded residents that all fireworks are prohibited in Mountain View and throughout Santa Clara County, except in Gilroy.
